Court imposes 500 TL fine over journalist Ketenciler, defers announcement of verdict
The trial where journalist İnan Ketenciler faces “disclosing private data” charges for videotaping a nightwatchman’s maltreatment of a citizen on June 23, 2019 was held today at İstanbul 55th Criminal Court of First Instance. The prosecutor requested the punishment of journalist Ketenciler, whom Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) defends, on charges of “recording audio or visuals without authorization”. Accordingly, Ketenciler was sentenced to 30 days in prison on that charge, which was first reduced to 25 days in prison, and then converted into a judicial fine of 500 Turkish Liras. The court deferred the announcement of the verdict.
