Die Welt journalist Deniz Yücel’s trial adjourned until spring

Barış Altıntaş, Istanbul - The trial of Die Welt correspondent Deniz Yücel was adjourned until April by the 32. High Criminal Court in the second hearing in the case heard on 20 December 2018.

The Court has said that German authorities have not yet commented on the court’s earlier request to hear Yücel’s testimony via the German Court system and that it cannot continue without hearing the suspect statement.

The Court ruled to ask German authorities about an earlier request to take Yücel’s testimony and adjourned the case until 11 April, 10.30 AM.

Yücel is charged with 'terrorist propaganda' and 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility'. The indictment includes only several news articles written by Yücel, who was kept in prison without an indictment for an entire year in Istanbul’s Silivri Prison until 16 February this year, when he was released, after which he left the country.
