Ali Sönmez Kayar, a reporter with the Etkin News Agency (ETHA) was arrested and sent to prison on 6 February.Kayar had been detained one week prior shortly after walking out of the ETHA office in Aksaray, Istanbul.
Five others -- all members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), with which ETHA is affiliated -- were also detained on the same time and subsequently arrested on 6 February under orders of a Criminal Judgeship of Peace at the Bakırköy Courthouse.
