Journalist Sertaç Kayar’s trial adjourned until December

Diyarbakır - The trial where journalist Sertaç Kayar faces up to 22.5 years in prison for “founding and managing a terrorist organization” charges based on the evidence that he attended 31 different marches, demonstrations and press conferences as a journalist in Diyarbakır between 2012-2014 resumed in Diyarbakır. The trial is part of a much larger investigation carried out against Democratic Society Congress (DTK) in Diyarbakır.

While journalist Sertaç Kayar, who is being tried without detention, did not attend the fourth hearing held at Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court today, his lawyer Şivan Cemil Özen was present. During the hearing, Menderes Öner’s witness testimony obtained from Çorum 2nd High Criminal Court was read out loud and added to the case file.

Kayar’s lawyer Şivan Cemil Özen stated that they reject allegations made against his client in this witness statement, while saying that they repeat their defense statement presented in the former hearings.

The public prosecutor who took the floor afterwards requested that Diyarbakır Chief Prosecutor's Office be asked in writing whether the latest search at DTK headquarters revealed any information or documents about Kayar's involvement. The court, which accepted this request and decided to send a warrant to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, adjourned the trial until December 4th.
