MLSA among 14 journalism organizations condemning deadly attacks on journalists in Gaza

The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) was one of 14 press and journalist organizations in Turkey that issued a joint statement on August 26, condemning Israel’s ongoing attacks on journalists and media infrastructure in Gaza.

The statement, titled “We stand in solidarity against attacks on the press in Gaza”, followed alarming figures released by Gaza’s Government Media Office, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, and the International Federation of Journalists. According to their August 26 data, at least 219 journalists have been killed during nearly two years of Israeli military operations. Additionally, 480 journalists have been injured, and 49 detained, while dozens of media institutions and journalists’ homes have been directly targeted.

The statement called Israel’s actions a war crime, asserting that the targeting of journalists and media outlets is a deliberate attempt to silence truth and hide alleged war crimes.

The 14 organizations, including MLSA, urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate and prosecute those responsible. They also demanded the lifting of Israel’s ban on international press access to Palestinian territories and an end to all censorship against the media.

The joint statement emphasized solidarity with Palestinian journalists who continue reporting under constant threat, calling for international support to sustain their work.
