MLSA Co-Director Veysel Ok and Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel came together
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, came together with prominent civil society representatives including Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) Co-Director and human rights lawyer Veysel Ok.
Ok shared his experience regarding freedom of expression and legal issues in Turkey with Merkel. He also expressed his opinion the judicial reform strategy.
Ok also reminded Merkel of Turkey being a member of the Council of Europe therefore must comply with European legal values. He mentioned that German journalists and independent journalists from Turkey are having difficulties in obtaining press cards.
After her meeting with civil society representatives, Merkel announced that she talked to the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about cancellation of press cards.
