Journalist Tuğba Tekerek, who has been held in pretrial detention at Sincan Women’s Closed Prison in Ankara since Sept. 15, said in a letter that her days in prison had not been easy but that she viewed the experience as an opportunity to learn about another facet of life.
“I’m doing well, and my spirits are strong,” Tekerek said.
MLSA — Journalist Tuğba Tekerek, who was detained as part of an operation dubbed “My Family Is Safe,” said in a message from prison that she remained in good spirits and had lost none of her determination to pursue journalism in support of “a better world and a democratic, free country.”
Tekerek was ordered held in pretrial detention on Sept. 15 by Ankara’s 6th Criminal Judgeship of Peace and is being held at Sincan Women’s Closed Prison in the Turkish capital.
“I’m doing well, and my spirits are strong. My determination to fight for journalism for a better world and a democratic, free country has not diminished one bit,” Tekerek said.
In her letter, Tekerek said:
“Today marks my 15th day in pretrial detention at Sincan Women’s Closed Prison. The days are not passing very easily in the regular criminal ward. But I see this period as an opportunity to learn about another facet of life.
“I’m doing well, and my spirits are strong. My determination to fight for journalism for a better world and a democratic, free country has not diminished one bit.
“The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) has been handling my legal case from the very beginning. I am very grateful to MLSA, to the lawyers who have stood by me throughout this process and to the members of parliament who have supported me.
“Love and greetings to everyone.”
